How can I run a search in one or more fields for a specific group of countries using the Multiple Advanced Search Requests feature?

In this example we will explore how to run a search in the Incident Component in one pass for attacks where VBIED was the Primary Tactic but limited to Libya, Egypt and Somalia.

The search takes advantage of the Multiple Advanced Search Requests feature that appears when you hit "Incident" in the main menua at the top. Without using the feature, you are limited to a single query. If you entered VBIED into the Primary Tactic and ran the search, you would get results for every country. If you put VBIED into Primary Tactic and Libya in the country, you would only see results for Libya.

If you want to run the search in one pass and have the results for Libya, Egypt and Somalia returned as one result set, the Multiple Advanced Search Requests feature gives you the tools to do it. It allows you to stack multiple OR requests in one search.

In this example, you would build the query by following the below steps.

1) Select VBIED for the Primary Tactic

2) Select Libya for the Primary Country

3) Press "Add Additional Search Request" under Multiple Advanced Search Requests

4) Select VBIED for the Primary Tactic

5) Select Egypt for the Primary Country

6) Press "Add Additional Search Request" under Multiple Advanced Search Requests

7) Select VBIED for the Primary Tactic

8) Select Somalia for the Primary Country

Your search query has now been built. You will notice that at the bottom of the Mulitple Advanced Search Requests section it will show your Total Requests as three. In this example we have one request for each country. You can build an unlimited number of requests and modify them however you need. You can navigate between the requests and make final changes if needed by using the buttons in the same section. You also have the option of designating a specific request as an Omit request, which means anything matching that one marked request will be excluded from the search.

When the search request is completed, press "Run Search". In this case, one search results page will be displayed showing all attacks with VBIED as the Primary Tactic that occurred in Libya, Egypt and Somalia.

The possibilities are infinite as you can stack an unlimited number of requests across all search fields and mix both regular and omit requests. If you need any assistance building your search query, please let us know by emailing support@intelcenter.com or filling out the support ticket form.
